An eclectic mix of personal blog and things of interest I've come across on the internet.

I didn't fancy another Covid update as not a whole lot has changed and have been slightly conscious that this website was meant to be 'An eclectic mix of personal blog and things of interest'. To be honest I'm bored and fed up of Covid. I'm pretty knackered so have decided to go for something pretty straight forward and decided to share a few things from my Instagram feed that I've found interesting/inspiring/funny...

Apparently it's been 9 weeks since my last update and I thought it was about time I wrote a new one. There's been some changes but overall I'm much the same. ## Improvements My main improvement has been to my brain fog since I've started taking antihistamines twice a day. Apparently that points towards t-cells and inflammation being part of the cause but I haven't looked too much in to it yet...

I haven't had the energy for any updates lately, concentrating my efforts towards work, getting ready for Christmas and recovery (yes, recovery takes effort too!). It's worked fairly well and I've been productive, I try my best to appreciate that and not compare it to how I was pre-covid or all the things I've been unable to do...

A few days ago I had a hospital appointment related to my long Covid. I wasn't sure what to expect as the only referral I had was to the long covid clinic and this appointment was with the respiratory medicine department. Once I got there and started talking through my symptoms the Doctor said there's not really anything he can do and I shouldn't really be there...

After using SVG (a type of image for web development) a bit in a recent work project I decided to spend a little time over the weekend playing with SVG and seeing some different things I could do.

It's been about 3 weeks since my last post and I felt it's time for another update. I've been trying to keep things mostly positive, partly for me but probably mostly for other people, and this time I've decided to be a bit more open about some of my struggles as I just need to vent them out a bit...

Today marks 3 months that I've been ill so I am now officially a long covid sufferer. What does that mean? Not too much besides being ill for 3 months now makes me eligible to go on a waiting list for help from a specialist Covid clinic. There's no magic cures that will come from that but there may be some help...

It's been a little over 2 months since I caught Covid. I've stopped counting the weeks and just counting down towards 19th September which marks 3 months and is when my GP can refer me on to a waiting list for a long Covid clinic and possibly some help. For the time being I'm just on my own trying to figure things out...

It's been a few weeks since my last post and just over 7 since I caught Covid. I would say things are progressing well and I'm recovering slowly. My list of symptoms is smaller and usually more consistent which is helpful for trying to plan around my fatigue more which is great. Apparently most symptoms are based off of the fatigue for most people so the better I can deal with that the better I will feel overall...

Wednesday and Thursday were I mostly felt were going well and I was starting to get a better handle on how to manage myself better. They were my only 3 hour work days (split over 4 or 5 sessions) in almost 3 weeks and on the Thursday I had a 5-10 minute walk picking up Kacey from school and then made some pasta and tomato sauce for tea that totalled 25-30 minutes of standing without breaks which again was the most in almost 3 weeks...

Just a slight heads up, I'm suffering with brain fog. Writing can be ok most of the time as long as I don't try to think too much. Reading is probably the hardest task for me to do so I won't be reading back through this to see how things make sense and there may well be more spelling mistakes than usual...

After a few years without an upgrade and a looming holiday in the Lake district I decided to upgrade my phone and in particular the camera. After a moderate amount of time spent looking at reviews I decided to go for the Samsung Ultra S21. At the moment the two best camera phones seem to be that and the new iPhone but I just don't want to get in to the Apple eco-system purely from a work/PC point of view for extra flexibility, more choice and saving some money...

Mental health awareness week has started and for the first time I feel in a place to engage with it. I'm not sure on the best way to do that so have just decided to write a little about my experiences and thoughts on my mental health. I'm not expecting to change the world but I realised if I can help just one person, and even if that person was me, it was worth trying...

It's slightly hard to review my running week. I only got out for one run but it was for 20 miles but I ended up pretty ill afterwards. The run itself was great, it was a social run with a good friend and I really enjoyed it, exploring places I haven't seen much of (and seem completely different from my first time there in the middle of winter) and other places I ran for the first time...

My original plan had been to complete 4 weeks of training and make my final final decision (there had been previous final decisions but this was definitely the final final one) but I've made the decision a week early and I won't be taking part in this years LL50. I hadn't mentioned it but since early last week I have had a niggle in my right knee...

Two weeks done and to be honest it's felt a lot longer than that but not too surprising when I take a look at my running this year; I haven't had this kind of consistent training since last year. I was struggling a bit following last weeks plan and ended up missing Thursday's (S&C) and Friday's (6 miles easy) session as I needed all of my physical and mental energy to make sure I got in enough work hours towards the end of the week...

So I've just finished my first full week of training in 4-5 months (it depends on if you count running 12 half marathons in 12 days as training) which to be honest surprised me a little when I just worked it out. Despite it being quite so long I'm actually feeling really good and performed a lot better than I was expecting...

I found myself this morning in desperate need of a plan. A club marathon I had signed up to months ago and kept forgetting about is now suddenly two weeks away. A bigger race, the Lakeland 50 (LL50) which consists of 50 miles and 10,000ft of ups and downs, has also crept up on me and is 14 weeks away...

I needed a second article to test some of my layouts so thought I would just give a quick overview of how I built this site and some of my thoughts for it's future. If you have any specific questions or want more detail on anything just let me know. The site is built on HTML and CSS just like all other websites...

I've made these a few times, it's pretty straight-forward, tastes great and offers great nutrition. I don't follow a strict recipe but more follow a basic formula.

I'm a runner. Pretty much everybody that knows me would say so and I would agree. The only issue is lately I just haven't been running much. There's been a steady decrease since last September when I hurt myself on an attempted 69ish mile run and had to pull out after 41 miles...
